While basking in the warm September sunshine sipping beer with a
friend (Ashley Lewis) we were discussing the perils of a modern
sedentary lifestyle and how
it leads us into fat and far away from fit. Meanwhile the clock
ceaselessly gobbles up the years and so, with
the benefit of a little alcohol in our blood stream, we were
contemplating what the future may hold. Clearly action was required
if we were to remain healthy and active. We needed to commit to a
challenge that would motivate us, and more importantly, benefit
others via charitable sponsorship. We therefore enrolled in the London to Paris bike ride which
took place in July 2008 and we raised over £3,000 for Action Medical
Research. This involved our pedalling 300 miles in 4 days from central London to
the Eiffel Tower.
I would like to thank all those who
generously sponsored us in this event.
We cannot stop now however, so we are
off again on another challenge for 2009. We have signed up
for the next leg, Paris to Geneva, in September which involves
cycling 325 miles in 4 days, including some hills called The
Alps!
Please sponsor me by clicking the "Sponsor Me"
link. This year we are raising money for The Road Victims Trust.
Each year about three thousand people die as a result of road collisions on the UK's roads. This represents an enormous loss to society in both a personal and financial sense.
Each person killed will be someone's parent, or child, or a favourite relative, best friend or soul-mate, or maybe all of these.
The
Road Victims Trust seeks to provide support for
the bereaved, and people otherwise affected by death, or life changing
injuries.
