While Postcomm’s proposed deregulation of Royal Mail’s monopoly will open up further opportunities for least cost routing, there are still substantial savings available with the current service providers. For example up to 29% discount can be realised through the various mail sort options.

The introduction of Pricing in Proportion (PIP) in 2006 favours the use of DL and C5 mail. Savings can be made by equipping the post room to meet this demand.

Many organisations are switching to a digital mailroom to either reduce hard copy storage, integrate with electronic document management, improve information security or enable enhanced user access. This also enables mail room consolidation with scale economies enabling automatic opening, automatic insertion, variable data printing and other technology based solution.

Mail staff can also be used for additional value added services such as copier support, stationery delivery, parcel collection etc.
